At the heart of Konnevesi lies Southern Konnevesi National Park. Its dramatic cliffs, island-dotted waters and pristine forests make it one of Finland’s most remarkable lake nature destinations. The national park attracts hikers, paddlers, anglers and nature enthusiasts throughout the year.

But Konnevesi is also defined by the movement of water.

The legendary Konnevesi Rapids Route connects Southern Konnevesi and Lake Kynsivesi through a chain of seven rapids, forming one of Finland’s most renowned destinations for wild trout fishing and outdoor recreation. Siikakoski, Taikinainen, Karinkoski, Kellankoski, Yläisenkoski, Keskisenkoski and Hannulankoski create a unique route that draws anglers, paddlers and visitors seeking the tranquillity of nature.

These rapids also hold a special place in Finnish history.

Siikakoski is famous as a fishing destination visited by President Urho Kekkonen and former President of the United States Jimmy Carter. A memorial near the rapids still commemorates Kekkonen’s fishing trips, and over the decades the area has earned an almost legendary reputation among fly-fishing enthusiasts.

In Konnevesi, nature and culture go hand in hand.

During the summer months, the village comes alive with events, music, stories and memorable encounters. The Savotta Market, KonnTeksti Story Festival, Konnevesi Women’s Week, events at Häyrylänranta Harbour and the excitement of international rallying bring together locals, summer residents and visitors from near and far. At the same time, quiet forest trails, lakeside campfire sites, harbours and scenic waterways offer space to slow down and reconnect with nature.

Perhaps that is Konnevesi’s greatest strength.
