Paimensaari: Star watching place

Thing to See

Paimensaari is an excellent destination for paddlers or boaters. The Paimensaari estate was home to pioneering self-sufficient sisters from the early 1920s until 1987. The island, located along the Heinävesi shipping route, is known for its beautiful nature and unique history, which visitors can explore by following the charming Paimenpolku trail. The estate’s buildings and traditional surroundings have been restored, and paths, information boards, and a landing site have been built for the enjoyment of visitors. The estate is open to the public year-round, but the buildings themselves are not accessible.

Paimensaari is located in the southern part of Tuusniemi, about 1.5 km south of the Levälahden village pier. The landing site is in the northwest part of the island.
