Hartikan torppa
Hartikan torppa offers visitors a chance to experience and see how people once lived in Laukaa. Its first resident was the blacksmith of Kuusvesi, who was also known as a folk healer and wise man.
According to local tradition, the first inhabitant of Hartikan torppa came from a family originating in Tornio, northern Finland. Records of the croft can be found in settlement documents dating back to 1690, making it one of the oldest known residential sites in Laukaa.
The Hartikka homestead is located on top of a high and narrow ridge near the Tarvaalanvirta waterway, on the edge of forest and farmland. Archaeological discoveries suggest that people had already settled in the area around 6500 BC, drawn by the excellent hunting grounds and fishing waters.
The museum is open by appointment only.
