Saimaa Geopark -site Enkelinpesä

Enkelinpesä is a great destination for those looking for a special day trip. The human figure spreading its wings, the impressive erratic boulder, and the cave with its campfire site are well worth a visit.

Enkelinpesä is a large glacial erratic boulder from the Ice Age, and according to folklore, the cave formed in connection with it provided shelter from persecutors during the Great Wrath. At a height of about one meter in the cave, there are red marks that are thought to represent a human figure.

Enkelinpesä is one of the Saimaa Geopark -sites in Juva. See the site's own pages on the Saimaa Geopark website.

Enkelinpesä is located along the Hiidenmaa trail, Hiiden polut, and there is a small, renovated hiking lodge, a toilet, a campfire site, and benches under a rock shelter. On the same trip, it is worth taking a detour to admire the magnificent scenery further along the Hiiden polut trails.
