Blåisvatnet
HikeDistance:
2 km (Aspvatnet)
8 km (Blåvatnet)
Estimated time:
3 hours
This is a nice walk in easy terrain that is suitable for all ages. Blåvannet (The Blue Lake) is a gorgeous lake with an intense blue colour that stands in stark contrast to the steep mountain in the background. The beautiful blue colour of the water may be explained by the silt particles in the melt water from the Lenangsbreen glacier.
To walk directly to Blåvatnet, follow the marked path. The top of the markers is painted red. Some sections of the path are uneven and the surface is scree or rocks. The final section up to the lake involves climbing over some large rocks.
The best time for this walk is on sunny afternoons in the summer and autumn.
Alternative route: Walk via lake Aspvatnet. Follow the path to the cabins and across the bridge then the marked route to lake Aspvatnet. From lake Aspvatnet, you follow the marked path from the northern side of the lake and across the outlet.
