Sysmän Teatteritalo
Sysmä’s Theatre House was completed in 1898 as a building for the local savings bank. The bank had previously operated in Hovila Manor, but its remote location led to the construction of a new, more central building. The project was funded using the bank’s profits, making it the bank’s first proper premises.
In its early years, the bank also supported the local community, directing part of its profits to education and culture, such as schools and the local library. This practice was later discontinued for economic reasons.
Today, the building serves as the home of Sysmä Kino. Film screenings began in 2000 with a travelling cinema, and the venue later acquired its own projection equipment.
Films are mainly shown on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a varied program for audiences of all ages. There are no screenings during the summer months.
